Tuesday Notice no 3 Autumn 2011

20 September 2011 in Tuesday Notice

CHARITY MICHAELMAS MEAL on Friday 30TH September at 7pm.

This year the school is participating in the WOW day initiative. WOW Day stands for Waldorf One World
On Friday 29th September children from all the Waldorf Steiner Schools are going to try and raise money for better learning and living conditions for children all over the World. Our school is going to try and raise money for the Shanti Sewa Griha Community in Nepal. This is a small community in Kathmandu that looks after people who have no place in Nepal: the poor, the lepers and the handicapped. In Nepal many people believe that handicapped people are cursed by the gods. The community has a school, a kindergarten, a farm, workshops, a clinic and a soup kitchen. Over 800 people have found protection, care and a task there. So far the following fund raising events have been planned: Class 2 will run a baking stall; Class 8 will do busking during the Friday Market; Class 11 will bake and sell waffles and pancakes. Some individual children will also be running their own fundraising initiative.
The main event will be organised and run by Class 5, who will host a Nepalese evening on Friday 30th September at 7pm in the School Hall. This will include a Nepalese meal, cooked by class 5 with the help of a Nepali chef; there will be a talk about Nepal and some entertainment.
Cost for the meal: £15 per adult; £7.50 per child; Family tickets £37.50
Tickets will be available on Friday September 23rd when there will be a Nepali stall. They can also be purchased from the school office. This is a great opportunity for our school to reach out to the wider community and we hope this will be a huge success. Leonie le Maistre, Foppe Jellema, Astrid Maclean, Sara Christey and Rachel Craig

NEW SCHOOL LIBRARY – Over the holidays the interview room has been transformed; and soon the new Lower School library will be ready to open. If you have any stray books from the old library at home or in your classrooms, and could return them to Jane Dewar (or leave in the interview room) that would be great. Watch this space for news on the opening of your new library.

CHRISTMAS MARKET RAFFLE : Time to gather ourselves together again, as the wheels of Christmas Market preparation are jolted into motion...The raffle is the second greatest money earner for us  - so as such we all need to invest precious effort in helping it reach its full potential. So we're sending out an appeal to one and all now for donations of quality prizes from within the school community and beyond. Perhaps you have something of yourself to offer or may have connections with individuals or businesses who would be willing to donate to the school in this way. Maybe you know of former pupils we can contact. We need at least a couple of breath gasping prizes (if not more) to bring initial interest to the raffle as well as a good range of other prizes.
Any comments on how we can enhance the raffle also appreciated.
Contact: steiner.raffle@yahoo.co.uk  or the Class 4 Christmas Market Team via the school office.
