HILARY from Afternoon Care has had a healthy baby boy called Noah, 7lb 5oz, on Friday 25th February.
 
MUSICAL EVENING – Fundraising Event for German exchange on Friday 11th March at 7.30pm in the Hall.
Pupils and Parents from Class 8 will be performing a wide and eclectic mix of musical styles for your entertainment. There will be an interval with refreshments. Donations at the door.
 
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
This term, pupils from Class 6 to Class 12 have been busy preparing a dramatisation of C.S. Lewis’s famous allegoric tale. We are offering 3 performances: on Wednesday 23rd, Thursday 24th and Friday 25th March at 7.30pm in the Hall. Please come and support our effort. It promises to be quite a spectacle!
 
The ‘mock election’ at the end of the Class 12 Politics Main Lesson block was again won by the Liberal Democrats,
but only  by one vote rather than by the landslide of last year. David Stevens
 
URGENT REQUEST FROM CLASS 8 - We are still desperately seeking accommodation for 3 German pupils who will be “exchanging” with our Class 8 between 19th May and 14th June 2011. If you can possibly offer a room and board to one or two pupils during this time, you will be supported by parents of Class 8 and receive £50 a week to help with expenses. This can be a great experience for younger children in your family and would be hugely appreciated by us. So please do consider it. Fair-trade Fortnight -The eco-schools committee has been looking at Fairtrade this term and will be holding a stall at the Friday Market this week, selling Fairtrade goodies and giving out information about how it helps farmers and producers in the developing world.

Plant identification at the community garden, Fri 4th March
There will be a plant-themed walk at the community garden this Friday, 4th March, starting at 2 pm (meet at the gates on Myreside Road),  led by a plant scientist with an incredible knowledge and enthusiasm for plant identification. The idea is to see what kinds of plants we have in and around the garden, learn some basics of identifying them, and to introduce early edible species.  If you have a copy of Concise British Flora by W. Keeble Martin, please bring it along.  No need to  book,  just turn up on the day.
 
The March PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday the 8th at 8:00 in the Handwork room. Please join us to discuss School road crossing, Climate Challenge Fund and other topics of interest. All welcome.

Natural Bee-keeping course in Scotland: 7th & 8th May 2011. The rising interest in bees has prompted us to get together with the natural bee-keeping trust to offer a natural bee-keeping course for those who are interested in working with the bees to improve bee health.   This will be the first natural bee-keeping course to be held in Scotland and will be held at Deanbank, our smallholding near Biggar (about 45 minutes’ drive from Edinburgh). It will be a two day course and costs £115 including an organic lunch and refreshments on both days.   For full details, go to: http://www.deanbank.org.uk/naturalbeekeepingpage.html or contact Pauline Shannon on 01899 221 578.

NEWTON’S ALTERATIONS is back at the Friday Market every week. I replace zips, take up trousers and fix, mend and alter most items of clothing.
