A CHRISTMAS CAROL – a new musical by Trevor T. Smith will be performed this Thursday and Friday (Dec 8th & 9th)
at 7pm in the Hall. A lot of work has gone onto this year’s big production. Do come along and enjoy the show.
Ice-creams will be on sale in the interval (50p) and please give generously at the door on exit.
The show will be over by 9pm.
 
SNOWFLAKE BALL Friday 16th December, 7pm – 11pm.
Come and enjoy this atmospheric evening of dance and Christmas cheer.
Class 12 invites you to join them for a glass of mulled wine, hot punch and mince pies to end the year on a festive high! There will be a mixture of live music and Ceilidh dancing performed by a live band. This is a family event with an appearance from Father Christmas himself and various games throughout the night. There will be a raffle, you can dedicate a candy cane with a Christmas wish to your friend or loved one. Come and have your photo taken in our winter garden which we will develop for you.
Tickets: adult £7 and child £4. Your ticket includes a festive buffet and soft drinks throughout the evening (BYOB). This is a fun night out for parents and children of all age groups (children should be accompanied by adults).
We look forward seeing you there. Dress to impress! Tickets are on sale from the Office and on the Friday Market.
 
SNOWFLAKE BALL RAFFLE – Due to the magnificent generosity shown to us from within the school community and beyond in response to our appeal for prizes for the Christmas Market Raffle, we will be using some of these donations for Class 12 Snowflake Ball Raffle. Don’t Miss out! Tickets on Sale at the Friday Market and on the night!
Prizes are: Meal for two at Henderson’s’ Salad Bar; Massage voucher; various sport session vouchers; bottles of champagne & wine and various other items.
 
NEW PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP – Wednesdays at 9.00am. Please come along or phone Anne on 07902307066 for more info. I also have some vouchers available for a free taster session. Do ask me for one if you have a neighbour or friend who could be interested.
 
 LIBRARY NEWS: Thank you to everyone who has supported the new school library in its first term. It has got us off to a flying start, and it has been lovely to see the children getting such enjoyment from the super new books and the fresh cosy room. This project was funded by proceeds from the previous Christmas Market.  
This week will be the last week of library for this term. All library books must be returned by the last session of this week, Thursday 8th December.
SPECIAL EVENT IN THE LIBRARY- on Thursday 15th Dec. at 3.30pm. Come and hear award winning author Janice Mackay read from new book “Magnus Fin and the Selkie Secret”, the final book of the Magnus Fin trilogy. Janis seamlessly weaves Scottish folklore tales and contemporary fantasy in these three tales of a Highland boy plunged into the mysterious depths of an ocean world. The Magnus Fin books will be available to purchase, and signed by the author would make a super Christmas gift. All ages welcome; books most suitable for 8 to 12 years olds. Entrance free.

SCHOOL CALENDAR: copies of the school calendar will be on sale at the Friday Market this week.  You can also order them by filling out the order form distributed last week and by handing this either to your class teacher or to Karin in the office.  Price £8 for one, £15 for two. GARVALD HOME FARM is having a coffee morning on 23rd December from 11am – 1pm. You can collect your organic vegetables and meat order at the same time.
 
WREATH MAKING WORKSHOPS at Oxenfoord Gardens just outside Pathhead on Sunday 4th and Sunday 11th December from 10:00am – 1:00pm. Learn the skills and make your own beautiful holly wreath with freshly picked moss, holly and greenery. For more info please call Anne on 07902 307066
 
Orchard Wassail at the Royal Edinburgh Community Garden, Jan 14th (and singing practice this Thursday, Dec 8th)
Wassail (meaning "be in good health") is a centuries old tradition to awaken the apple trees and scare away evil spirits to ensure a good harvest of fruit in the autumn.  There'll be a Wassail in the orchard at the Royal Edinburgh Community Garden on Sat Jan 14th 4-5pm, organised by parents at our school and the local Edinburgh South Transition Town group.  Please do come!  There'll be: Lantern procession through the orchard. Wassail poems, songs and music around the bonfire. Hot spiced apple juice. And ancient rituals to ward off evil spirits!  Please bring lanterns and musical instruments. And to learn some of the old Wassail songs, as well as help compose new ones, come to a practice singing session at the Eric Liddle Centre this Thursday, December 8th, 6:30 - 9:30 pm.  Liz Murray and Sonia Theilen (class 4 and 6 parents).

Children’s Summer Camp – Following the success of last year’s camp with 65 children from all over the UK, The Christian Community in Stroud, Gloucestershire is again running a Children’s’ Camp from 28th July – 7th August at a wonderful new venue, Camphill Coleg Elidyr on the edge of the Brecon Beacons in Wales. Helpers are upper school pupils and parents from Wynstones Waldorf School. Open to children from Class 1 – 7 from all schools and backgrounds. EXCHANGE WANTED - Veronica and I’m 15 years old. I live in the centre of Munich near to my school, the Rudolf-Steiner-Schule Schwabing. I have two nice sisters and a brother. I have a lot of interests such as joining our school’s circus. It would be nice if a 15 or 16 year old student would like to come to Munich in May, June and July next year and if I could come and visit him/her in Edinburgh in September, October, November. NEWTON’S ALTERATIONS is back at the Friday Market every week. I replace zips, take up trousers and fix, mend and alter most items of clothing. I also re-cover cushions and make up some soft furnishings & sew clothes for both adults and children. Oh, and I make “Steiner dolls” and knit socks! Quite a Jill-of-all-trades!
