Cristina blossoms in writing competition!

28 November 2011 in School News

We are delighted to announce that Cristina Grohmann, Class 4, has been selected as one of just 20 prize winners in this year's Green Pencil Award.

Attracting 1,100 entries this year, the Green Pencil Award is a creative writing competition with an environmental theme which is open to all Primary 4 to Primary 7 children in Edinburgh.

This year's theme was 'forest and trees' to reflect that 2011 has been declared International Year of Forests by the UN. Cristina's submission, which received a Highly Commended from the judging panel, has now been published in a booklet along with the other prize winning stories and poems.

Blossoms of Spring by Cristina Grohmann

The world is still
The trees are bare
The earth is cold with winter's stare
Although there are no signs today
That spring is here or on her way
I know that soon the trees will show
The tiny buds that we all know
Mean winter's gone and no more snow.

Through this hard winter
Though it might bring
The thought of not seeing the buds of spring
The trees are bare
The air is cold
And though we were so often told
Not to lose hope - or even think
Of not seeing the buds in spring.

But there they are
Not buds any more
But blossoms
The Blossoms of Spring!
And with them they bring
Warm weather, sunshine, and no more snow
And the blossoms grow and grow.
