CHRISTMAS MARKET 2009 RESULTS. The accounts for the Christmas Market last November have now been completed and can be viewed in the accompanying PDF document, which also lists the net income from the Christmas Market 2008 for comparison. If anyone has a query about the results, please contact the Spending Group Treasurer (Ian Oliver): by phone 01721 730696 or email ijoliver@globalnet.co.uk.
We would like to thank all who helped so much through their hard work and dedication to achieve such a splendid result (over £11,000 net income) and the school community should be justifiably proud of this success.
PTA SPENDING GROUP FUNDING FOR PROJECTS IN THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
The Spending Group currently have about £8,000 available to fund projects, and we invite applications from the school community to enable us to use these funds as widely and as wisely as possible. Inevitably, we will not be able to fund all requests, but will look favourably upon those that we consider will provide the most benefit.
So far, this school year we have funded the following requests: books for library (£290); computers for refurbished IT suite (£3,930); paving of toddler’s area (£330); materials for aerial work for PE Department (£380); 50% share of cost of Soil Association Organic Certification for school (£280); two wooden weaving looms for Handwork Department (£900); power tools for Woodwork Department (£1,620); and a printmaking press for Art department (£4,000, in progress). Requests for funding should be made, accompanied by supporting information and quotations, on the forms that are available from the School Office.
COMMUNITY GARDEN. A site close to the school has been earmarked for the development of a community garden, and our school has been invited to be a part of it. On Sunday 21st March there will be a chance to come along to the site of the community garden (off Myreside Road, 5 mins walk from school) and have a look round, as well as to help clear some areas and begin work on paths. The site tour will start at 10am and you can stay for as long or as little time after that as you want to (up till 4pm latest). Sean Jacques, the project manager for the site, will be there to show us round and oversee the work. He’ll also be able to tell us more about what is planned and is keen to hear our ideas and suggestions. Children are very welcome but must bring an adult with them. Please do come along! Contact Sonia Theilen on soniatheilen@doctors.org.uk or 0131 466 1683 for more details and to let us know if you plan to come (so that we have an idea of numbers and can contact you if plans change due to bad weather).
ANNUAL BIKE SALE on 27th March from 9.30am – 12 noon in the School Hall. (Fourth year running).
Please bring along bikes and cycling equipment to sell from 8.30am on the day. Cycling equipment (bike seats, tag-alongs etc) and bigger kids’ bikes are always in big demand so please dig out anything you don't use and bring it
along to sell. We always get plenty of buyers from outside the school and usually sell pretty much everything. You get to keep 80% of the price that your item sells for, and the remaining 20% goes to the school.
Would you like a holiday club for your child at ERSS this summer? Read on…....Thanks to everyone who has completed our PTA surveys, if not it should take you no more than 5 minutes. Ask Mute in the office or go online to http://tinyurl.com/ptaquestions and complete by 13th March.
Holiday Club, this is to establish if there is an interest amongst the parent body for holiday activities at our school. Depending on the results we will get an idea of number of children and age range and the activities would be organised to suit. This could include arts and crafts, but also farm, museum, and festival visits. This is a fantastic opportunity for full time working parents but it will also suit those that just need a day here or there, there is no commitment to booking a whole week.
Skills, this is only to get an idea of what skills our parent group has and is not a commitment to being asked to volunteer. One of the PTA aims is to build on our community and we can only do that by knowing you.
We will also be at the Friday Market if you wish to ask us any questions or have any suggestions. Thanks The PTA
CAR BOOT SALE -
The weather was not kind to us on 27th March but only 3 cars failed to turn up. We had a target of £300 and I'm glad to say that we not only reached it but exceeded it with profit in excess of £365!! This was from rentals, gate, refreshments and the takings from my stall. I would like to thank all the Class 12 German group who worked so hard on the day, all stall holders who braved the snow, all those who came to browse, buy and eat hot dogs and a special thank you to Mr Stevens, who manned the gate efficiently and in sub zero temperatures. In spite of the conditions it was indeed a success! Marcia Burgess
Please note: The School does not necessarily endorse or warrant the following information relating to activities or articles for sale. All notices for inclusion should be signed and dated and handed into the office, with appropriate payment, before 10.30am the preceding Friday. £2.00 for school ads, £3.00 out with.
