SPYLAW ROAD CROSSING
There is still no solution to this problem. Despite repeated enquiries to the local council department responsible for ‘lollipop people’ we are still unclear as to whether any provision will be made for Spylaw Road. We have been told that several local workers have been offered the job, but have the right to turn it down (which they have). Budget cuts at the council have resulted in a complete freeze on recruitment, so no one new can be employed. We have also been informed that our two nearest crossing points (at the bottom of Myreside and the top of Shandon) are busier and potentially more dangerous, despite having phased traffic lights—and that having personnel at these crossings will therefore remain a priority. For the time being, parents should be aware of the risk and help their children to manage the crossing safely and responsibly. The school has been in touch with Lothian and Borders Police, who may be able to send out their schools liaison officer to talk to Classes about road safety. We will pursue this, and other measures to heighten the children’s awareness of road safety.

Congratulations!
