EXAM RESULTS 2009
Congratulations to those Upper School pupils who received exam results in August. This year’s results were some of the best for many years. Over 77% percent of results at Higher were awarded a pass at grades A-C. This was substantially above the national average. One candidate achieved five A grade passes all at band 1, the highest level possible. Pupils sitting Intermediate SQA qualifications achieved a pass rate of 88% A-C, while 57% of results at Standard Grade reached levels 1-3. As the figures below demonstrates, GCSE results this year were outstanding, with several candidates receiving perfect 100% scores in subjects such as Art and Chemistry. While 84% of GCSE results were at grades A*-C (against a UK average of 67%), over 40% of these results were at grades A* and A. In the three separate science subjects candidates recorded a pass rate (A*-C) of 100%. These results are a well deserved reward for all the hard work and commitment demonstrated by Upper School pupils and their teachers. A Pugh
CONGRATULATIONS - Many congratulations to pupils in Class 10 who have become the first in the school to receive an accredited qualification for main lesson work. Dr Burgess’s ‘Narratives’ main lesson, which was taught to last year’s Class 9, was inspected quality reviewed by the Open College Network (OCN) which recommended that the course be accepted without amendment. Twenty five pupils were awarded OCN Levels 1 and 2, equivalent to a good pass at GCSE (grades A-C). Of those twenty five, the majority (seventeen) received a Level 2, equivalent to an A Grade pass at GCSE. The school is extremely proud of all these pupils. The English department, and other Upper School departments, will now explore the feasibility of accrediting other main lessons. The accredited Narratives main lesson will now be available annually to Class 9.
