Tommy Tops Scotland in Higher Physics!
Tommy Shinton, from last year's Class 12, has scored the joint highest mark in the 2009 Higher Physics examination. In recognition of his achievement, he has been invited by the Institute of Physics in Scotland to attend this year's Science and the Parliament event at Dynamic Earth in November where he will receive a prize in front of over 300 attendees.
The event will examine the relationship between science and health while discussing a broad range of ways in which scientific developments contribute to better health. It will be attended by Nicola Sturgeon, Health Secretary, who will also award the prizes. The event aims to bring together MSPs, civil servants, and a wide range of people from the scientific community in Scotland to inform decision makers of some of the important scientific endeavours that are taking place in Scotland.
Tommy, who gained an incredible five Grade A Band 1 awards at Higher, will be travelling to Ghana and Australia after Christmas before studying Civil Engineering at Glasgow University in the Autumn of 2010.
