14 September 2009 in School News

A pupil from the Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School has been celebrating after achieving one of the highest marks in the UK for GCSE Chemistry. Olga Alapiki (17) achieved 100% and gained an A*.

Olga, who has been a pupil at the school since she was in Kindergarten, said: “I really enjoyed the course so the learning, homework and revision were never a chore!

Gordon Reynolds, Olga’s teacher explains: “The Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School has a history of achieving excellent science results. This year, our pupils again achieved a 100% pass rate at grade A* - C. 42% of our science pupils achieved an A* against a national average of just 24%. Yet we do not select our pupils on the basis of ability like other independent schools.

“We attribute the quality of our results due to small class sizes and the unique nature of the Steiner curriculum. While we teach the exam curriculum like other schools, we expand on this through a programme called Main Lessons, a technique which is only used in Steiner Schools.  This means our pupils are greatly assisted in all their examinations by the breadth of topics we cover. The success of this method is evident in our exam results.”

Open Tours for prospective parents and pupils are being held on Friday 2nd October, 6th November and 4th December 2009. Contact the School on 0131 337 3410 for more information and to book a place.
