Holiday Success Stories
27 August 2009 in School News
While the school has been on holiday, our pupils and teachers have been pushing themselves to the limit, achieving a range of successes over the summer months.
Rhiannon Mackay from Class 8 swum her way to success, clinching the title of Scottish Women's Open Water Novice 1km Champion! She also attended the East District Championships on 22 August, competing for the first time in the 2km category and then swimming in the 1km event just 10 minutes later - finishing an impressive 3rd! Rhiannon will now go on to take part in the Scottish Grand Prix Series next year.
Meanwhile Mr Pugh, Class 12 Guardian, climbed the famous Half Dome Mountain in Yosemite National Park, USA. Enduring a 17 mile hike and reaching an altitude of nearly 9,000 feet, he completed the final quarter of a mile hike to the summit at a 45 degree angle with only metal cables to assist him on the smooth cliff face. Not for the faint hearted!
Finally, it is with enormous pleasure that the school announces that Tommy Shinton from last year's graduating Class 12, gained a staggering five A band 1 passes at Higher Grade. Tommy will now travel to Ghana and Australia during his gap year before studying Civil Engineering at Glasgow University in 2010. Huge congratulations to Tommy and all our pupils who took examinations this year!
