"Child's play: how we risk giving our children everything except the freedom to play"
A big thank you to Cara Redpath, Lizzie Turbe-Mikietyn, the Upper School Choir, Mr Brett, Mr Fels and Mr Maclean for bringing some wonderful music and singing to the Scottish Parliament to open the Alliance for Childhood event on play last Thursday. The event was really well attended, with more than 70 people coming from across Scotland. A motion was also placed in Parliament on the same day calling on the Scottish Government to ensure that access to play for all children is embedded in public and planning policy in Scotland.
 
‘SIR ARNE’S TREASURE’ the Mistral Eurythmy Group performance Thursday 7th May at 8pm in Hall As part of the 70th birthday celebrations there will be a Eurythmy performance by the Mistral Eurythmy Group on Thursday May 7 at 8pm in the school hall.
 
TEACHER TRAINING TASTER EVENINGS - The teacher training course will be holding three taster evenings on Mondays June 1st, 8th and 15th, from7:30pm to 9:30pm at the school. The theme is “Fundamentals of Steiner Education”. There will be a study and an artistic component to each of the sessions. BIKE SALE Saturday 9th May at 9.30am – 12.00 lunch time
For the third time we are organising a bike sale, with hopefully lots of bikes (kids + adult ones) We will sell for you if you DROP OFF your bikes etc. from 8.30am onwards, or come at 9.30am to buy.
HELPERS (especially for bike maintenance) still needed – please get in touch with Sonia on 466 1683.

PORTOBELLO SAILING AND KAYAKING CLUB - Portobello Sailing and Kayaking Club and the RYA’s Sailing in the City’ team are offering children aged between 8 and 14 the opportunity of a half day sailing taster session.
This is a special inaugural event for the club and morning and afternoon sessions are available over 4 days on two weekends: 23/24 May and the 30/31 May. Each course is half a day long and costs £19.95.
No previous sailing experience is necessary and all equipment including buoyancy aids will be provided.

ACCOMMODATION WANTED FOR TWO FRENCH GIRLS IN JULY.
Yuna and Jeanne are 15 year old girls from Brittany (France) who are looking for a nice English family willing to host them for two weeks in July (preferably during classes, which they would like to attend).
Yuna lives in Rennes, one short hour from Mt St-Michel and St-Malo. Jeanne lives in Perros-Guirec on the beautiful "pink granite coast". Yuna plays piano, tennis and likes calligraphy, art in general. Jeanne loves horse riding, volleyball and athletics. Yuna and Jeanne speak English well enough but would still like to improve; in addition Yuna speaks German fluently; Jeanne speaks Breton fluently and has been learning Spanish for 2 years.
