MANY CONGRATULATIONS TO KIRSTY SHINTON (class 10) who was awarded First Prize in the National Poetry competition “Away with words”. Helen Keller (class 10) was also successful in the same competition: she took one of only four runners up places.
MWACHIRU CHIRUME TSUMA
Last year’s Class 12 began to sponsor Mwachiru three years ago, when they were in Class 9.At the time Mwachiru was nine years old. He lives in a village in Kenya and the conditions are very basic. His family lives in a hut made of sticks and mud and shares a latrine with the rest of the village. Water pollution is an ongoing problem. Sponsoring Mwachiru, whose father is dead and who lives with his mother, sisters and brother, ensures that he can continue going to school and that conditions in the village can be improved. Unfortunately the money raised three years ago through a carboot Sale in the school ran out this summer. However the present Class 10 have undertaken to continue sponsoring Mwachiru and have made personal donations for this year. To ensure continued sponsorship beyond this year we intend to fundraise also. We will be having a stall at the Friday Market on the last Friday of each month selling bric-a-brac, books etc. starting at the end of October. We hope you will support us by coming to buy, raising funds and thus improving little Mwachiru’s life. M.M. Burgess
